Do we need to ventilate before OER and HER test?

Do we need to ventilate before OER and HER test? What is the role of ventilation?

Yes.The gas inlet of the cell is necessary for the following two purposes. First, it provides the reactant, namely, O2 gas for the ORR and H2 gas for the HOR. Second, it ensures the H2- or O2-saturation(1 bar pressure) to maintain the equilibrium potential at the standard value, i.e., 0 V versus RHE for HER and HOR, 1.23 V versus RHE for OER and ORR. The importance of gas saturation is explained by the fact that the partial pressure of the introduced gas enters the Nernst equation.
