When selecting “automatic” for range switching, the min. range setting is valid, and the user can select a value to limit the minimum current range for automatic range switching. This setting is designed because in high resistance system too low current range can result in extra noise.
Choose the “only increase” box, then the current range is switched only towards the direction of increment which is especially useful for CV. In fast CV measurement, the current will inevitably increase or decrease with the cyclic change of potentials. If the current range is frequently switched between from high to low and low to high, there will possibly be some noise burr and thus influence the curve’s smoothing. Switching the current range in single direction (from low to high) can avoid this problem and guarantee that the current is promptly switched when the current reaches a big value.
Under any circumstance, the noise will probably occurs during the transient moment of range switch, therefore it’s suggested to choose constant current range in fast measurements or in case of high data acquisition frequency.
